Riding the Waves to Eternity: Hangin’ with the Cosmic Surfer

In a Belladonic Haze

A non-event of a day in most respects. I had to be up early because a guy was due at 08.00 to prune the old apple tree at the back of the garden, which is to say prune it properly rather than hack at it as I would do. I didn’t sleep well last night, and, once he’d gone, a nap was in order. That was fine but it left me groggy with half the day already gone.

I took a walk to get out of the house for air and also to buy some beer to have with supper; other than that the day has pretty much disappeared. I decided quite early that I wouldn’t do any more revision today as my concentration isn’t up to it.

The rest of the day may yet surprise me, but I suspect that this evening will be given over to online TV or films that require precisely zero intellectual engagement, followed by an early night. It’s a cliché, I know, but I can’t just brush of a bad sleep and recover like I used to.

On the plus side, I am here to be bored and, as the numbers stand, 120,365 fellow Brits aren’t thanks to Covid-19. That’s 20,000 deaths in the UK since January 20th, many of whom will have contracted the virus over Christmas/New Year. World-beating.

Music : I remember hearing this a lot on Radio 1 in, I suppose, 1973 and liking it, but then silence. Whatever happened to that band Queen, I used to think. Then boom! Seven Seas of Rhye came out in Feb. 1974.
