As I’ve said before, I try to listen to all of the records I write about here at least twice before jotting a couple of paragraphs down. Obviously that’s easier with some than others. Even the albums I don’t much care for often have something to say for them, and there have only been one or two so far that I never want to hear again. Most disappointing are not the complete dogs but those with good musicians from whom you’d expect better.
The second Flying Burrito Brothers album is one of the latter variety: good musicians with a good track record from whom I expect something a cut above the average, irrespective of their preferred style of music. And I barely got through a single listen without ever thinking I ought to give any track a second chance. It is professional, competently played and sung, and of no interest whatsoever.
Instantly forgettable.
