Johnny Winter And

I used to have this album but sold it, along with a load of others that I never listened to. Listening again, that was a smart move by younger me: if I’d kept it, I still wouldn’t listen to it.

Now, please understand that I have nothing against Johnny; he was one of the true greats and I have no problem at all with a good Johnny Winter album. The problem is that this isn’t a good Johnny Winter album.

Yes, it’s a tight band and there’s the usual heavy riffing and fluent lead guitar work; it’s just that the material, including some seriously shitty Rick Derringer songs, is poor. The exception is Prodigal Son, which goes onto my 1970 playlist.

I listened on Spotify so you don’t have to–although, as I’ve mentioned about other albums, it attracts 5* reviews on Amazon so don’t take my word for it. (But do take my word for it 🙂 )
