Anyway was Family‘s fourth album. Side one was recorded live at Fairfield Halls, Croydon, side two in the studio. I’d never heard it before today, although I have a couple of the tracks on a compilation cd.
The only criticism I could level at this album is that the recording quality of the live side one is a bit rough, especially Chapman’s voice which sounds like he’s singing in a barn. Considering I didn’t really ‘get’ Family until I listened to them again in January for this project, this is quite the turnaround.
Some months ago, my pal Malcy was amused by the brevity of comments on albums I didn’t like; this album gives me the opposite problem. I was captivated from the moment I put it on, notwithstanding the echo-ey side one. The only track that doesn’t do it for me is Normans, but it’s a relative thing.
Your mileage my vary.
I listened on Spotify, though I’m contemplating the cd. It’s also on YouTube (below) but the sound is a bit strange.
