Easy Action
I don’t own any Alice Cooper records and, as best as I can remember, never have. That’s not to say that I didn’t like the early single hits, I just never found a reason to explore the albums. So tonight’s album, their second, while the lead singer was still Vincent Furnier from Detroit and hadn’t changed his name, was a voyage of discovery.
I wish I hadn’t bothered. This album has been buried because relationship difficulties with the producer meant the band didn’t like the end product, and who can blame them?

The playing is solid and competent, without ever really taking off, and some of the material is strange. Shoe Salesman and Beautiful Flyaway sound very like late sixties English pop material and the latter is quite interesting in a ‘what might have been’ kind of way. Still No Air starts badly and doesn’t get any better. Lay Down and Die, Goodbye takes us into the cosmos in a well-intentioned but ultimately irritating way.
Only Return of the Spiders points towards their future sound.
Frankly, there isn’t much to detain us here. I listened to it so that you don’t have to.
