Another double edition today, reflecting a problem with one of my scheduled releases–Ray Charles’s My Kind of Jazz. It isn’t on Spotify and isn’t available as a coherent playlist on YouTube, so what can I do? For all I know it is an overlooked classic, but if I can’t listen to it I can’t say.
I could listen to Portrait by the 5th Dimension though. The album sleeve hints at psychedelia, but it’s up, up and away in a marketing balloon. The album is a mixture of influences put together with Radio -friendliness and commercial potential in mind. There’s some pop, some funky Gospel/R’n’B, and a lot of schmaltz. Their MOR attempt at Laura Nyro’s Save The Children almost works, but it’s downhill after that.
So one album I couldn’t manage to listen to, and another I don’t want to listen to ever again. How’s your day going?
