McLemore Avenue
Apologies for the format of this post, an accident last night meant I didn’t get anything written. The obvious solution was to get these two out of the way in one post.
Live Cream was recorded at the Winterland in San Francisco in 1968. I know Cream were influential in their day; I recognise Jack Bruce as one of the great bass players; I like some things they recorded. However a lot of their output has dated very badly, and this album is a prime example. Thud-thud, bash-bash, diddly-diddly howl. There: saved you the bother of listening.
McLemore Avenue was Booker T and the MGs’ attempt to cash in on The Beatles Abbey Road. It was a good idea and the album cover is an early example of the Abbey Road pastiche we all know and love. Unfortunately the performances are perfunctory and never come close to capturing the production values of the original.
They’re both on Spotify if you really want to have a listen, and possibly YouTube too but I couldn’t work up the enthusiasm to look. Your mileage may vary.
