Riding the Waves to Eternity: Hangin’ with the Cosmic Surfer

12 : March Targets Update

13 March 2022

In my first post in this sequence, I set myself some targets. As of today I have met two of them: my HbA1c is in the normal range, and I am now wearing 32″ waist trousers. My BMI is also now into merely overweight rather than obese, but is on track to drop into my normal range sometime in late spring/early summer.

I’ve managed this even though my weight is now falling at a slower rate than it was in January – presumably I’m passing through a series of equilibrium states. I could probably speed this up by tipping myself into ketosis for a week, but I’m comfortable with the steady loss. However, getting into 32″ waist trousers today while still a lot heavier than I want to be suggests to me that I can now reasonably target 28″ waist trousers sometime later this year, with 30″ as an interim milestone, probably some time in May. It also suggests to me that I can get my HbA1c deeper down into the normal range by burning off more body and visceral fat. So far, against a baseline of mid-October 2021, I’ve lost 16.5% of my then bodymass. There is more to go.

The next major aspect of my strategy is to begin a ‘couch to 5k’ programme, the same one I last did in 2006 when I was in my 40s. I see the doctor this coming Wednesday and it’s on my list of things to talk about.
