Chasing Rabbits
Apologies for this, but we’re back to the Groundhog, albeit a wintry Groundhog. I had a great sleep last night, from around 23.30 to 09.00, and woke up to find more snow had fallen overnight. Just like yesterday, I wandered out and cleared it from our driveway. Also just like yesterday, we had more snow fall on the area I’d just cleared.
This afternoon I was back to editing in the shed, playing the same CD on repeat (George Benson, White Rabbit, £3.49 on Discogs, 25p in my local charity shop.) It was recorded, I suspect, for the cash: Benson, Ron Carter, Herbie Hancock and Billy Cobham jamming their funky way through some popular tunes of the day plus an original. Very well played, and entirely undemanding. It got him his first Grammy nomination though.
The editing is going fine: this afternoon’s surgery was to shift a scene from half way through to nearer the beginning where it makes more sense to have it.

Late this afternoon, Charisma Carpenter, who shot to fame as Cordelia Chase in Buffy and Angel, made a series of accusations about Joss Whedon, in support of comments made by Ray Fisher about Whedon’s behaviour making a Justice League film for Warner/DC. Carpenter was immediately supported by Amber Benson, who played Tara on Buffy, who said the show was a toxic environment ‘and it starts at the top.’ Clare Kramer, Glory in Buffy season 5, has also added her support. While I’ve been typing this, Sarah Michelle Gellar added her voice on Instagram, saying while I am proud to have my name associated with Buffy Summers, I don’t want to be forever associated with the name Joss Whedon. Others have spoken up previously, including Jason Mamoa and, to a degree, Gal Gadot.
You can never tell with these things, but, with all due respect to Aquaman and Wonder Woman, my feeling is that when the Slayer drives home the stake it’s game over.
I wonder if any of the Marvel/Avengers people will speak up too.
Ray Fisher’s mantra has been that accountability is more important than entertainment. I agree with that. The sadness is that it must cast a stain over rewatches of any of Whedon’s shows (my feeling, fwiw, is that the quality of the work of the cast and crew shouldn’t be tarnished.)

Music: George Benson had never heard of the original White Rabbit when it was suggested as a tune, he picked it up and improvised with Herbie Hancock for seven minutes. Grace Slick wrote it in 1965 or so and took it with her when she joined Jefferson Airplane. I’ve never been a great fan of Jefferson Airplane, but often feel that Grace Slick was more talented than she was able to be within the confines of that group.
