Riding the Waves to Eternity:Ā Hangin’ with the Cosmic Surfer

I Let The Day Go By

My final post of 2019 was to criticise Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker; my first of 2020 was a short one concerning a change of theme for this blog to accommodate the 1970 in music posts. In February I got news of the sudden death of an old friend, who’s funeral I chose not to attend in early March because the risks of picking up Covid-19 on the journey seemed to be too high and I wondered if I was overreacting. My first post about Covid-19 was March 6th (omgwereallgoingtodie and by the end of March we were in lockdown. On March 15th (Dear Diary) I made the first of a continuous set of daily posts. This is post 293 in that sequence (I posted twice on two days in March). The first post in the continuous sequence with music was 21 March–Miles Davis So What? and only two since then have not had music. To the best of my knowledge there have been no repeated music choices, until tonight.

In February I was getting interested in some Family Tree stuff that I haven’t looked at since. I also had one of only two haircuts I’ve had this year. My hair was purple for a while during the year too, and may be again. Somewhere in amongst the groundhog days I finished writing my second novel and started writing my third. Along the way I listened to a lot of 50-year-old music and mostly enjoyed it.

There was more, no doubt. And one day, if I can work out how to do it without massive amounts of copying and pasting, I plan to download this Covid diary into a document, lightly edit it for grammar etc., print it off and bind it. It isn’t finished yet, though. Not by a long way.

Music: two deliberate duplications of music previously posted in March. The first, an animation of The World Spins Madly On by The Weepies appeals to my sense of finding the beauty in the melancholic, or maybe vice versa. The second is a song that always cheers me upĀ  and, in its own way, expresses hope: Ripple.
