Riding the Waves to Eternity: Hangin’ with the Cosmic Surfer

Blow Winds Blow, My Bonny-o

St. Stephen’s day, and the wind is blowing a hooley as Storm Bella comes to call. We’re more fortunate than our neighbours down in Bedfordshire where there is serious flooding, but it’s stormy enough for me. I think it’s due to get worse this evening (I’m writing this during the afternoon). I quite like to go for a walk the day after Christmas, but today I’m happy to stay indoors, drinking tea and eating leftovers from yesterday.

Also, although I said I’d finished, I added a couple more posts to December 1970 music.

I haven’t looked much at the news over the past couple of days. There’s a load of speculation about the Brexit agreement, which seems a fairly futile effort to me. If it gets through Parliament, it will take some time for it’s practical impact to become properly apparent, so playing guess the consequence now hardly seems worth it. We also came under new Covid restrictions today. As I said a couple of days ago, it means we’re not allowed to do things I don’t want to do anyway; and I still expect full lockdown to happen again quite soon.

That all sounds very downbeat, and I suppose it is, even though I’m not. I mean, I’m not jumping for joy either, but I have a similar feeling to that of being in the middle section of a long-haul flight (remember those?) I’m looking for things to keep me entertained between naps and looking out the window, wondering if I should have another red wine. Yes, we’re in the dog days of the year, but one day we won’t be.

Music: I am somewhat ambivalent about Kate Rusby. She has a great voice but after a while her albums started to sound same-y, and last time I saw her she seemed a bit full of herself, which is, I suppose, a very British attitude for me to take.

But.

When she hits the spot, she hits it dead centre. The Elfin Knight
