Riding the Waves to Eternity: Hangin’ with the Cosmic Surfer

Moulded to Middle Class Circumstance

I’m still a bit dopey from something or other, and it was late morning before I realised today was Sunday rather than Monday, not that I spent the ‘extra’ time especially productively. A trip to various shops with Kirstin in search of a Christmas present coming up with a big fat nothing, although I did get that rogue security tag removed from my new fleece. It was nice to get some daylight, though.

Thinking it was the wrong day pretty much set the tone for how the last few hours have gone, not in any bad sort of way, but more in that sense of having a few hours to kill before you have to get to the airport, but not enough time or inclination to do anything useful. As it was, I whiled away the time with Ceylon tea and crap space opera. I had a quick walk this evening, managing my usual 40-minute route in 30. Maybe that’s because it’s -2° outside and I was keen to keep moving.

My aim in the coming week is to get back to producing fiction, even if it’s only a couple of hundred words a day. As I said to someone the other day, I shouldn’t feel pressured about it because it’s a hobby, not a job, but I do like the feeling when a story is going well.

Music: back in 1976 I had a ticket to see Joni Mitchell at the Apollo in Glasgow. Unfortunately she took sick and the whole of her European tour that year was cancelled. Hissing of Summer Lawns had been out for some months, and Hejira was imminent. As things would have it, I never did see her play live.

This is the first track from Hissing of Summer Lawns : In France They Kiss On Main Street (though not at the moment they don’t).
