Riding the Waves to Eternity: Hangin’ with the Cosmic Surfer

Hypnognostic Niggles

A clear eight hours sleep last night was a great way to start the day. I woke up convinced that a person in a dream was someone I knew, and the feeling has nagged at me all day because I can’t remember who it is/was, even though the actual content of the dream is long-gone. it’s probably just my mind playing tricks, but the feeling persists even now, twelve hours later.

Most of the day has been spent reading things online, though I did write another 1970 music post. I’m nearing the end of the year now, and have mixed feelings: I’ve enjoyed the project and the stuff I’ve discovered, but I’m also looking forward to not feeling obliged to write something most, though not all days. In normal times I would have spent a couple of days in the library looking at the UK music press for 1971 to see what was there that I didn’t know, but these aren’t normal times.

Not much other writing has been done. I went back through recent material and did some light editing, but I really need to print a copy and work on it from a paper m/s, which I prefer to revising onscreen.

One of the pieces I read online is this from Zeynep Tufekci in The Atlantic:  It’s Time to Hunker Down. Zeynip has made a habit out of being right about responses to the pandemic. The piece focuses on the US where things look to be getting very bad very quickly. They’re bad in Europe as well, but there is at least some co-ordinated response here.

Music: I heard this Adams/Chisholm duet earlier and picked up an earworm. Now it’s your turn. Hint: it’s a much better slice of pure pop without watching the video.
