Riding the Waves to Eternity: Hangin’ with the Cosmic Surfer

A Great Big Pink ‘Un

A large part of the day was spent disposing of our old car and acquiring a new one. I say ‘our’ car, but it’s Kirstin’s so I wasn’t required to do a lot except to give the occasional opinion and look more useful than I actually was. Also, I am surprisingly ignorant about cars, but even so can confidently report that we sold a blue one and bought a grey one.

It took longer than I expected, so I ended up getting home tired, hungry, and borderline dehydrated. I did the obvious thing and had a nap, and here’s the thing: when I went to sleep the appalling Dominic Cummings was in Downing Street and when I woke up he’d gone, flouncing out the front door with a box of his belongings. I would have preferred a more ignominious exit for him some months ago, but we can be thankful that he’s gone at all.

We remain up shit creek without a paddle, of course, with no way back and nothing to look forward to ahead, despite the pronouncements of zealots continuing to spout their half-arsed nationalist bullshit every time you give them opportunity. Our incumbent government is a cabal of the useless, the conniving and the deceitful, too thick to recognise that their vision was a hallucination, a fever dream of a past that never was.

I haven’t commented on this week’s Star Trek : Discovery because I didn’t bother to watch it. I did watch this week’s episode of The Mandalorian, which succeeds by doing a simple thing very well.

Music: not only one for a day in a car showroom, but also a random selection from my box of singles. I first heard this on the Alexis Korner Blues and Soul show on Radio One in 1981. I know that because I recorded the show and still have the tape. Over the years I’ve accumulated quite a lot of the tunes he played that night. It’s a Dury/Jankel song and production; Ian can be heard on the chorus. I assume its Norman Watt Roy playing bass, but could be wrong.
