Riding the Waves to Eternity: Hangin’ with the Cosmic Surfer

Don’t Wanna Hurt no Kangaroo

Another relatively poor night’s sleep after a string of reasonable ones. I woke at 03.30 and didn’t get back to sleep again until around 04.30, and I’m feeling the lack. No naps this morning as we spent a lot of it thinking about our car, which has recently become fault-prone, and the possibility of replacing it. The matter remains unresolved, in part because we don’t know how much it’s going to cost to fix this time, but there’s nothing like a couple of hours at a car dealership to dull the senses.

A 1970 music post was written this afternoon, then around 400 words of fiction as I try to get my mind back into the work in progress. I’m aware I’m still in the opening phase of the story, and I am in a better position now to figure out what the middle will look like, at least in outline. I’ll need to figure out some background details for the characters I have, and create some more to populate what’s to come. What that needs is time and there isn’t a great deal else to distract me.

I know I ought to be paying attention to such routine matters as Brexit, Covid, Climate, and whatever mischief 45 is up to, but some days it’s best to let them be. It’s not as if I can do anything about them.

Music: I don’t remember where I first heard this, though it was probably on the radio. I have the original 1972 LP in the cupboard; I think I bought it sometime in the late seventies at Greyfriars Market. By some weird lateral thought process, this came to mind looking at headlines about the ongoing farce in the US and European reactions to the election.
