Riding the Waves to Eternity: Hangin’ with the Cosmic Surfer

Tealights at Twilight

Well, that was nice. For the first time since another lifetime ago we had a friend round this evening. We sat out in the garden, physically distanced, had a little white wine and chatted. That’s why this post is late tonight, and it’s also why I’ll be keeping it short.

It has chilled down now, but it has been yet another lovely day here. It got to 80 degrees at my desk this afternoon. The weather is forecast to change over the next couple of days. This is in the context of the sunniest spring on record in the UK. The report says Met. Office scientists are ‘amazed’ at the sudden switch in extremes, but I infer a subtext that they are concerned. It’s a reminder, if one is needed, that however deadly and abnormal this pandemic is, the bigger problem is still there waiting.

I did get 600+ words written this afternoon, featuring a new character who, along with his parents and their occupation, arrived pretty much fully-formed while I was reading earlier. It’s funny how that happens, and, in doing so, gives more shape to the story. I was pleased with that. It’s an indication that the creativity that’s eluded me for a while is coming back.

Music: As everything turns in a shitward direction, I find beauty, even melancholy beauty, helps. And this is gorgeous. Judy Collins and a chorus of Humpback Whales. Farewell to Tarwathie.
