Happy Canada Day to my readers in the great white north!
For those who read these things, I posted my usual monthly update an weight and stuff following the diabetes diagnosis last year. You’ll find it here.
All things considered – and I can hear Mum’s voice in my head telling me not to tempt fate – things are going well just now. Like everyone else I’m watching the bills go up and doing mental maths against my fixed income, but we do OK. And I have my writing and other odds and ends to keep me occupied – those of you who see my Instagram and Facebook feeds already know that I brought a 1958 Olympia SF typewriter back into action last weekend, and it’s working pretty well given its age (which means, for the geeks, that I haven’t replaced the platen as it would be too expensive). And I’m slowly working my way through a to-be-read pile of books that never seems to diminish.
In other news: After a good run last night I need to rest today and probably Saturday too before going jogging again. I really should put the time to good use by saturating every available channel with marketing for the new novel, but instead I made some bread and went for a long walk and have just made some muesli bars with ginger and honey.
The new novel? expect a post here in a day or two on that, and something on Instagram before then. I’m hoping also to have internet-related news soon as well.
Music for Canada Day.

Well, Canada Day passed in a relatively quiet manner here in Ottawa. The “Freedom Convoy” types showed up in small numbers only to find the roads surrounding parliament to be blocked off and heavily policed.
They had a little walk up and down in front of the legislature which, of course, is on summer break. And, given that most of the pandemic mandates have been lifted here, no one is quite sure what they are protesting. But, you know, “Freedom”! Proving that, even here in one of the “freest” countries on the planet, we unfortunately have our share of complete idiots and those suffering from anti-social personality disorders.
