Another cold night and middling day, and another long sleep last night.
The broadcast media here has temporarily lost its collective mind over the death of Chookie Embra. The BBC had so many complaints about excessive coverage that they set up a pro-forma webpage so you could add your name to the list. I have a certain sympathy for them in ‘damned if they do, damned if they don’t’ way–the web page attracted complaints that it was a ‘disgrace’ because the BBC were ‘encouraging’ people to complain. Channel 4, which moved quickly back to regular programming, got some heat for that.
Initial indications are that BBC and ITV viewing figures fell noticeably. As for me, I have neither watched nor listened to any of the coverage. I’m not blind to the civic significance of his death, but I have no interest in being a courtier, even just for one day.
Inevitably this will drag on while there are much more serious things to worry about.
No walk tonight as it just snowed for fifteen minutes or so and I’m not sure what it’s going to do next. This gives me plenty of time to indulge a new hobby–watching news and video feeds from the current volcanic activity on Iceland

Music : I had a couple of thoughts for tonight, but I’m going with Fleetwood Mac and a Christine McVie song : Everywhere
