A strange feeling today, a kind of morning after the day before feeling, like the excitement is over and now it’s back to Groundhog Day. This isn’t helped by the weather closing in again. The light outside was weird too, brown and miserable rather than grey and miserable. I responded by listening to Alan Stivell and Captain Beefheart and reading a Star Wars novel; anything you hear about tea and cake is just lies and gossip, possibly amplified by social media. Also, the general dopeyness I’ve experienced for a couple of weeks now appears to have developed into a winter cold of the stuffy nose/chesty cough variety. I continue to think that hibernation is a valid option, possibly a desirable one.
I wrote a 1970 music post featuring Captain Beefheart this afternoon, and listened to the beginning of John Lennon’s Plastic Ono Band (11 December 1970) I have to say I turned the Lennon off, and it may be the only one of the five Beatles solo albums released in 1970 I don’t write about. Or maybe that’s a good reason to force myself.

I haven’t mentioned politics much of late, because, well, just because; but this by Robert Hutton in The Critic caught my eye. The subject, inevitably, is Brexit
But that didn’t matter, explained actual members of parliament, adults who had stood for election and somehow won. The important point was that the Conservative Party was in agreement. Brexit could now go forward. And when the people they were supposed to be negotiating with, the European Union, said that they needed something slightly more concrete than crayon drawings of imaginary sky computers, these same members of parliament, some of them people who had been in the Cabinet, the actual Cabinet, told us that the EU was being unreasonable.
It was all like that: people too lazy to do the reading explaining to you that something or other wasn’t beyond the wit of man, although it was clearly beyond the wit of this specific man. How hard could it be, we would be asked by someone for whom it was obviously much too hard.

Tonight’s plan is to post this then fairly quickly take myself to bed in the hope that I can sleep this thing off and resume what currently passes for normality. In particular, I’ve had a break from writing for a couple of weeks and need to shift my sub-conscious into gear.

Music: a random one from the shelves. I have this on vinyl on an old Warner Brothers sampler album, and I have the original album on CD. From Oakland CA, the great Tower of Power: Don’t Change Horses In The Middle Of A Stream
