Riding the Waves to Eternity: Hangin’ with the Cosmic Surfer

Spring!

Life is skittles and life is beer, and all that.

I’ve been getting on with getting on, and, as seems to be the case more and more often, keeping up to date with this blog has been the main casualty. Life has been quite full, though, partly with work but also with a serious illness within the family which has, naturally, made the primary call on our time.

I’ve also been writing quite a bit of fiction. I’ve been doing this for a while but am only now feeling comfortable with my ability to do it, and hence to come out of the literary closet without too much embarrassment. By this I mean that the few people who have read my stuff, two of whom are editors, have liked it and encouraged me to write more. I’ll probably say more about this, but not for a while–at least not until I have a series of decent stories finished.

I’m writing this in the run up to a UK general election. Unlike in previous years I do not plan to write much about it here at all. I wrote more than I intended last August/September in the run up to the Independence Referendum. Politics has got a bit weird since then. The constituency where I live was Tory for many years until the great cull happened and the Lib. Dems. took it. For the most part this was because they were a reasonably safe place to put your vote to keep the Tories out. Of course the coalition changed that and I would be surprised if the Lib Dems retained the seat.

It is an SNP target seat, despite the strength of the “No” vote last September, and I suppose that in the face of a split vote between the other parties they must think they’re in with a shout. This leaves me in something of a quandary; I do not want to see the SNP win here. So do I vote with my political leanings or do I grit my teeth and go with the least-worst of the non-SNP candidates.

Whatever; I don’t plan to say any more about it here.
