Kraftwerk
Kraftwerk’s eponymous debut album was released in November 1970, though it has apparently been largely disowned by the band, and has never been released on cd or through official streaming channels. For that reason if no other I hadn’t heard it before.
It is much more experimental than the material that made them famous. Perhaps not surprisingly, it reminds me of early Tangerine Dream in that its approach favours soundscapes and textures over melody and harmony, though even at the most out there, there is an implied rhythm to the tracks.
it shows promise. The opener, Ruckzuck, hints at what Autobahn would be, but they give in too often to a tendency to interposing harsh sounds for effect or silly noises for no effect. The musique concrete elements of Stratovarius didn’t do much for me. Megaherz reminded me more than a little of White Noise cut with Pink Floyd.
It’s only 39 minutes long but, in the end, it outstayed its welcome.
I listened on YouTube, which seems to be the only place it’s easily available.
