Cosmo’s Factory
Cosmo’s Factory, released 25 July 1970, was Creedence Clearwater Revival’s fifth album in two years. The prolific output made no apparent dent in quality: the album contains some bona fide CCR classics.
Back on 21st February I wrote
Creedence were a very efficient rock band with sharp, tight songs by John Fogerty, with great hooks, very well played. And rarely more than 2 1/2 minutes long.
Contrary to that, this album kicks off with a seven minute track Ramble Tamble that Wikipedia suggests has a psychedelic element, which just goes to show that you must never trust Wikipedia. There’s also a thirteen-minute version of Heard It Through The Grapevine.
The whole album is tightly arranged and played, well-rehearsed, and packed with hooks. There’s also Travelin’ Band, Up Around The Bend and Who’ll Stop the Rain? What more could you ask?
