Welcome to this new set of pages on my blog. These pages are specifically for posts relating to my books and my experiences with writing and publishing. Previously, these have all appeared on the main blog in the ‘writing’ category, but with the upcoming publication of my debut novel, The Raven and the Hart, the time is right to give them their own section. Some of those older posts may well show up here in revised form.
When I published Coyote in the Corner in October 2021, as well as getting the stories out there it was also my first step into indie publishing. I promised myself then that I’d document what I’d learned from the process for the benefit of others following the same route. By starting these pages, I’m making good on that promise to myself. I learned a lot when starting out from the kindness and generosity of others who came before me, and it’s right that I give back in the same spirit. I do not claim that what I’m doing is the right way or even a way that will work for you; I will write about what I’m thinking now and, in dues course, whether I was right or whether I change my mind.
I can’t promise that posts here will be frequent, and I hope to cross-pollinate with a forthcoming newsletter, so there may be some general duplication that I can’t avoid. Nonetheless, I hope you’ll find interesting things happening here whether you are a casual visitor, a reader of my stories or someone looking for lessons learned by another newbie.
