The Lads
I spent time yesterday working on the lads which you see to the right – the guitar and octave mandolin which I built. I was working on the action for both of them – lowering the bass side of the bridge and lowering the nut slots on the octave mando. and lowering the nut slots on the guitar.
I likely won’t do anything more with the mandolin now as I’m comfortable with how it is playing. The guitar has a little further to go but I’ll give it a while longer to settle down before I touch it again. Specifically, I can probably shave a little more off the nut slot of the bass E and I need to make a fractional change to the compensation on a couple of strings, although I’m toying with switching from medium strings to a slightly lighter guage so further setup changes aren’t a great idea right now.
Either way, both are playing nicely.
There are a couple more instruments which I’d like to make but space issues are now being felt. I would like to make a mandolin proper (and it doesn’t take up much space) and I would like to make one more guitar.
We need a basement!
